Education is the key to socio-economic development of community. It not only empowers the individuals but also helps the families, governments, economies to be progressive. Indian education system is one of the largest education systems in the world. Teachers are the backbone in education system since they teach, train, education, motivate the students from time to time. They play different roles such as teacher, facilitator, evaluator, observer, care taker etc. However, it is important that teachers should be motivated. Otherwise, it becomes fruitless activity. This study investigates the work motivation of private college teachers, focusing on the challenges and opportunities they face. Drawing on Self-Determination Theory (Ryan & Deci, 2000, 2017), the study explores the motivational factors that influence teachers' professional learning, such as professional development programming, teacher collaboration, university/college courses, professional conferences, supervising, and informal learning (Karabenick & Watt, 2017). The research also considers the role of teachers' self-efficacy beliefs, motivation to teach, and curriculum fidelity in their work motivation (Lauermann et al., 2017). The study is significant as it deals with the educational transformation visible in the form of National Education Policy 2020.
